Bob Aylott of Orbys Consulting wins NOA Lifetime Achievement award
October 19 2007 - At last night’s fourth annual National Outsourcing Association (NOA) awards dinner, Bob Aylott won the prestigious Lifetime Achievement award.
On receiving the honour, Aylott said “I am really happy to accept this award in recognition of the work that I have been involved in through many happy and challenging years working in the IT industry. I have had the great fortune to work with some very good people in Orbys and throughout my career, on some really important and challenging projects, which has meant that I have always been faced with leading-edge issues.”
For the past seven years Bob has been working at Orbys Consulting, a European leader in strategic sourcing advisory. “Bob has worked on leading some of the key developments in this industry, providing expert consulting advice to our clients on outsourcing decisions and their implementation across the globe,” said Angela Wyatt, Managing Director of Orbys Consulting.
Throughout his career Bob has continued to surface issues and opportunities from outsourcing and provide solutions and methodologies that have, in many cases, now become industry standard. Specific examples include being involved in the development of ITIL, establishing what is now the Helpdesk Institute, and the best practice research developed through the Impact Outsourcing Research Programme.
“The outsourcing industry still faces challenges in moving from control relationships to collaborative ones, to better survive changing business and competitive situations. Currently at Orbys I work with clients and suppliers to establish and adopt 'best practice' in these and other areas as the market changes – often faster than customers can respond!” said Aylott.
In 1991 he started the outsourcing practice of KPMG to develop sourcing methodologies for clients and assist them in making and implementing decisions on IS outsourcing, and subsequently joined Orbys.
Bob was one of the first people to have advised on outsourcing across many sectors, including UK government agencies, charities, cheque processing and clearing, insurance run-offs, UK public sector education and government support for the development of outsourcing services in the Far East.
In addition to client work, he has delivered lecture programmes on outsourcing issues and best practice across the globe and contributed further to the development of industry best practice. For example, from 1994 onwards he has run the Impact Outsourcing research programme on ‘Best Practice Outsourcing’ and later on ‘Achieving Added Value through Outsourcing’.
